Free 30-minute parking is available adjacent to Holden Hall on the Engineering Key directly west of the building.

Lubbock County Democratic Party Convention Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where and when will the County Convention be held?

The Lubbock County Democratic Party Convention will be held at the Lubbock High School Auditorium, 2004 19th Street on Saturday, March 29th at 1 p.m.

    When should I get there?

Sign in will begin at 10:30 a.m. Doors will open at 12:15 p.m. to begin seating.

Delegates have individually reserved seats with their Precinct Caucus groups.  A separate block of seats is reserved for Alternates. Seating for the general public will be extremely limited - we expect a full Convention!

Delegates and Alternates are requested to sign in and pick up their credentials early, go somewhere to eat lunch, and return in time for the opening gavel at 1 p.m.  There will be no food or beverages inside the auditorium except for water.  Tobacco use is not allowed on LISD property.

What will happen at the Convention?

The general Order of Business comes from the Rules of the Texas Democratic Party.

    1.  The County Chair will call the Convention to order.

    2.  The Temporary Roll of Delegates will be established from the sign-in sheets at the door.  It takes some time to get this done. Your cooperation in signing in early and returning in a timely manner to be seated with your precinct delegation or the other alternates will help prevent delays in the process.  While the credentials committee works on it there will be a round of opening courtesies and observances and a welcome from the County Chair.

    3.  The Credentials Committee will give its report, including recommendations to resolve any challenges of Delegates or delegations' credentials. Delegates at the Convention must vote on this report before any other business can be conducted.  Those being challenged may not vote.

    4.  The Rules and Procedures Committee will report, and Delegates to the Convention will vote on that report.  It will contain recommendations on how the County Delegation is to be polled, methods for conducting voting and procedures for conducting debate.

    5.  The Delegates will elect from among those present of a Permanent Convention Chair, a Permanent Secretary, and other officers necessary to conduct Convention business. (Texas Election Code §174.065)

    6.  County Convention Delegates will elect Delegates and Alternates to the State Convention.

    7.  Any other Committee reports will be given, and Resolutions will be voted upon.

    8.  The Chair will adjourn the meeting after offering the County Chair Elect the gavel and the podium for a speech.
